FREE BOOKS*
I’m not going to pretend that this blog is anything but a blatant and tacky attempt to get that coveted commodity, reader feedback. Any librarian who posts at least a sentence-long comment on how we can improve the blog and/or LJ’s online Book Review content gets a free book of her/his choice. Hankering for some Elvis? I’ve got your medicine. Craving a first novel? I can set you up with the best. Just give me some love, people, and you’ll get some back. P.S. God bless Karl Helicher.

Why are you limiting feedback to librarians?

Hey, Rachel. I figured I should pitch to our target audience first and foremost. And when I say librarian, I should say you don’t necessarily have to have an MLS. You could be a library assistant of some kind, a parapro as we call them.

I will do just about anything for free books. Seriously, I really appreciate LJ online. It keeps me current until I have the leisure time to read the hard copy magazine. As a book selector, the top three items I use in my job are:
Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and Booklist, in that order. PW tells me what’s coming out, and LJ and Booklist confirm my book-buying intuition with solid reviews. Of course, I supplement these with other tools, but I religiously read my top three cover-to-cover.

Kate,
You wrote the blueprint for the kind of response I want. Thank you so much. I might give you two books. Speaking of, what are you craving???

Hi Heather. Thank you for your kind request that I be blessed. Believe me, I need all the help I can get. I enjoy the lively and thoughtful bloggings that the LJ staff provides. Nice to see some responses to your latest comment. If free books are what is needed to stir up some response, so be it. As for me, I get so many excellent books to review from LJ and my other magazine, that I don’t have a hankering for anything specific. Although, I suppose I could always use a book of stamps. Best regards. Karl

Hi Heather - Seems to me that part of the problem is that readership of this blog is low - maybe more publicity is needed? I stumbled across it because I googled something. Even though I’m aware of it (disclaimer: I am an LJ reviewer), it doesn’t occur to me to come and read it. Tell librarians why they need to come check out the blog, make it relevant, and they will come. Does that help at all?? : )

I think more people would read and respond to these blogs if they were easier to find. It might help to put a link that says “LJ blogs” on the home page.

I agree with Patsy’s comment. Your blog is not easy to find and would benefit from more publicity. Why isn’t there a link to it on LJ.com’s homepage?
I am very interested in what your department is reading and enjoying. Perhaps you can tell us what books are on your shelf? What books are waiting in the wings to be reviewed?
Thanks and keep blogging.

In Zeiten von massenhaft Websitenmüll im Internet eine sehr gut aufgebaute Website, nicht überdimensioniertes Design und sehr gut recher-schierte Hintergrundinformationen.
